This faith-based, self-study course gives you the skills and confidence you need when learning to assist a midwife during births at freestanding birth centers and at homebirths. It will grow your confidence as you step into the sacred setting of birth, and your midwife, knowing you have taken and achieved certification in this course, is likely to have much more confidence in you as well.
Assisting at Births is perfect for Student Midwives and those learning to Birth Assist, and also for Doulas who sometimes find themselves alone with the midwife as the baby is coming quickly. It will build your confidence in how to help when help is needed.
This course is also excellent for new nurses in labor and delivery, so they arrive with some skills of the trade. Includes Certification and Course Completion Certificate! These can be put in your curriculum vita and also posted on your website. It also includes many scriptures to add to your heart and service of mothers and babies in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Once you finish the course, you are invited to attend an optional in-person hands-on Skills Drills Weekend in the Pacific Northwest, just a stone’s throw from the Canadian Border. If you’re new at attending births, you are going to want to take this course!
The role of an Assistant is to be the Midwife's Second Set of Hands. It is a helping position, a position of charting, watching the clock, excellent communication, setting up and cleaning up, a time when you learn to think like the midwife, to anticipate her needs and the needs of the birthing woman and baby, to assist in both normal birth and also when deviations and complications arise.
