A Spacious Place
Chaplaincy in the Landscape of Birth
A place where birth is not only attended… but gently tended afterward.

There are moments in this work
—and in birth--
that do not leave when it is over.
They stay--
in the body,
in the mind,
in the quiet places no one else sees.

Birth is not only something we move through.
It is something that stays with us.
This is a place to gently tend what remains after the birth.

For you were never meant to carry this alone.

"When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
he brought me into a spacious place."
— Psalm 118: 5

What This Is & What It Is Not

What This Is
A gentle chaplaincy offering
for those shaped by birth--
whether you have lived it in your body,
or carried others through it.
A place to bring what remains--
to be met with understanding,
and to not carry it alone.

What This Is Not
This is not therapy.
Not clinical debriefing.
Not evaluation of care.
This is a quiet, faith-rooted space
to be heard,
to be met,
and to gently lay burdens down.

Who This Is For

  • Midwives
  • Doulas
  • Nurses
  • Birth assistants
  • Student birth workers

  • Mothers—recent or years beyond birth--who find themselves still holding something

Those who stay in the room.
Those who have crossed through it.

Those who have witnessed something--
or lived something--
that has stayed with them.

Not because something was done wrong--
but because something real was experienced.

Something that mattered.
Something that still aches.
Picture
There are moments when the weight of what has been
carried--
or lived--
begins to press in.

When things feel close to a breaking point.

This is a place for those moments.
For you were never meant to carry this alone.

About Mary

I am a licensed midwife and chaplain,
and for many years I have walked alongside women and families in birth.

I know this work--
the staying,
the carrying,
the quiet holding of what others may not see.

Over time, I began to notice that some things do not simply pass.

They remain--
quietly, sometimes heavily--
without always having a place to land.

I am a licensed chaplain through
the International Fellowship of Chaplains,
and this work has grown from that recognition:

a meeting place
between birth work and spiritual care.

A place for what is carried--
and what has been lived--
to be gently held.
